EARTH DAY - ART PROJECT

ANIMATED TREES—Due Date Tuesday, April 28th

The student will learn to successfully draw a “V” and “Y” tree, and technically color and animate their tree.

Ask yourself these questions while working on your tree:
Does it have a likeness to a tree and face?
• Are the branches tapered at the
ends and do they overlap?
• Have you colored the tree and face
in solid, with appropriate colors?
• Did you use at least two colors for
the sky?
• Is the grass correctly placed in the
picture?

Practice drawing your “V” and “Y” trees. Once you are satisfied with your tree shape. Then begin drawing the final product. Think about trees and The Wizard of Oz trees that come to life and are animated. They have faces and character. Think about cartoons and cartooning. Practice drawing a face on your paper for practice until you achieve the feeling you want for your own character. Research cartoon faces online. Make a face and Think about the emotion you are trying to represent. How are trees like people? How can you show different emotions through a look on your face?

     Instructions

1. Draw a “V” and “Y” tree leaving about two to three inches empty on the trunk for your face.

2. Color your tree in the direction it grows. There should be no white showing on your tree. So color it solid and leave two to three inches space on the main trunk for your face.

3.  Then draw your face and color your face, ears, and lips with skin tone colored pencils. You can also go over the eyes and lips with other colors. You should make sure you do not color the whites of the eyes (this is the ONLY white that should be on your paper.)

4. Next focus on drawing the sky. The sky does not have to be just blue, try to incorporate two colors into the sky. It should also express the same type of emotion you are including in your face. So your sky should match the mood and emotion of your face.

5. Lastly include grass in your picture, but make sure the grass does not go into the face of your tree.

Examples (Please do not copy, be creative and original):

Once you are finished please write a short story about your tree explaining your trees emotions and mood. (Must have 5-7 sentences.)
