Science-read p. 130-133; In your journal write these characteristics of the different land biomes and be able to identify each type if presented with the characteristics

Biomes

Temperate/Tropical Rainforest Biome: 

1) Temperate has cool wet climate and tropical has warm wet climate; average temperature is 26 degrees C and more that 3 meters of rain per year

2) More species than all other biomes

3) Many tropical rainforests are near the equator.

4) Tropical rainforest are on all continents except Europe

Deciduous Forest Biome:

1) Cooler climate, not a huge amount of rainfall

2) Contain deciduous trees which lose their leaves in the fall and winter months

3) Less food available so some animals hibernate

4) Deciduous forests are found mainly in Europe and eastern half of the United States

Grassland Biome:

1) These are biomes covered with many types of grasses and have few trees

2) Small amount of rain so few trees; trees that are present grow near lakes or rivers

3) One large grassland extends from Mexico to Canada

4) Changes in the climate in grasslands can affect the populations

Taiga Biome:

1) Forest areas that are cold and dry

2) Most trees have needles for leaves 

3) Many animals in this area have fur due to the cold climate

4) All taigas are in the Northern Hemisphere
