SUMMER WORK—2021

Summer Work for rising 5th Graders

Dear Rising 5th graders,

In consideration of a wonderful new year in 5th grade next year, below you will find work which needs to be completed over the summer. Please complete all work as a prerequisite (look it up if you do not know what it means) to 5th grade! Hopefully this will help you to make a smooth transition into 5th grade math and language arts.

The following is to be completed in IXL in 5th grade level with a 80-100% score during the summer.

Math-Section A 1-5; Section B 1-5; Section C. 23 & 24; D.1

Language Arts-Section A 1-3; Section Q 1 & 6; Section JJ 3 & 4; KK.2; MM.1; UU.1; Section II 1 & 2.

In addition to the IXL work the students are required to read one book. They may choose from:

Restart by Gordon Korean

Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan

The Magician’s Nephew by C. S. Lewis

Julie of the Wolves by Jean Craighead George

It is always important to take notes on the book as you read, especially important story elements: characters, setting, problem, solution. Your first assignment will have to do with the book you read so BE PREPARED! You are more than welcome to go ahead and take the RQ Quiz on your book. It will be a grade during the first nine weeks, so if you do not pass retake until you do pass.

Students are always welcome to read more than one to get ahead on their Million Word Reader goals!!!

I hope you have a safe and happy summer vacation!

😃
