June 15, 2020 Summer Work

Summer Work 2020

Dear 4th grade Students and Parents,

In consideration of a wonderful new year in 5th grade next year, below you will find work needing to be completed over the summer.

Please complete all work as a prerequisite to 5th grade. Hopefully this will help your child retain information already learned and help to make a smooth transition into 5th grade math and language arts.

The following is to be completed in IXL in 5th grade level with a 100% score during the summer.

Math – A.1, C.18, D.1, D.3, K.5

Language Arts – AA.1, BB.1, CC.1, DD.1, LL.1 They are encouraged to work on other sections if they so choose.

I also encourage your student to do some reading on Readworks over the summer. One article a week would be advised.  We will use it quite frequently in class. There are some great ebooks on the website also.

In addition to the IXL work the students are required to read one book. They may choose from:

Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan

Or

Restart by Gordon Korman

Encourage them to take notes on the book especially regarding characters, setting, problem, solution. They should be prepared to discuss and be tested on one of these books shortly after school starts.

If you feel your student needs more work or special practice in a particular area, please feel free to email me ladonna.metaxas@sascolts.org.

I wish you and your family a safe and happy summer vacation.

Sincerely,

LaDonna Metaxas

5th grade Teacher
