Summer Work for Rising 5th Graders!

Dear 4th grade Parents and Students,

In consideration of a wonderful new year in 5th grade next year, below you will find work needing to be completed over the summer. Please complete all work as a prerequisite to 5th grade. Hopefully this will help your child retain information already learned and help to make a smooth transition into 5th grade math and language arts.

The following is to be completed in IXL in 5th grade level

Click under Skill Plans and locate IXL Summer Adventures 5th grade! It’s for rising 5th graders. Complete at least half of each day. It is important to complete as many IXL’s as you can with a smart score of 90 or above.

In addition to the IXL work the students are required to read one book. They may choose from:

The Magician’s Nephew  by C. S. Lewis

Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH by Robert C. O’Brien

Restart by Gordon Korman

Take notes on the book especially regarding characters, setting, problem, solution.  I will collect these. Be creative! They should be prepared to discuss and be tested on one of these books shortly after school starts.

I wish you and your family a safe and happy summer vacation.

Sincerely,

LaDonna Metaxas

5th grade Teacher
